Stem Cell
Therapy
Stem cell therapy utilizes unspecialized cells capable of self-renewal through cell division. These cells can differentiate into specific tissue or organ cells under certain conditions, serving as an internal repair system in many tissues by replacing damaged or dead cells. In Westwood, there are two main types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. In veterinary medicine, adult stem cells are found in various tissues such as bone marrow and adipose tissue. They possess the capability to repair and regenerate different tissues by differentiating into specialized cells.
Stem cells have the potential to differentiate into various types of tissue, including blood vessels, bones, cardiac, cartilage, fat, ligament, liver, muscle, nerve, and tendon tissue.
Currently, stem cells can be sourced from bone marrow and adipose tissue in dogs, cats, and horses.
